Air cooled load resistor banks
General
Heat transfer of air cooled load resistor banks is based on either natural or forced convection. In natural convection the heat is conveyed by the rising air from the heating elements.
If high power is required, then fan assisted cooling can be used. Typical applications include load resistors of frequency converter drives of e.g. cranes, oil rigs, rolling stock equipment and various industrial applications.
Challenges
- Demanding operating conditions
- Requirements placed by moving equipment
- Long service interval
- High temperature requirements
- Installation and operation
- Official requirements
Solutions
Demanding ambient requirements are solved with suitable materials. Load resistor banks are designed so that they meet with e.g. rolling stock requirements.
The core of Loval heating elements is well protected against demanding ambient and temperature conditions. Elements can be bent to fit into limited space.
